Bird Scout CollageJPG
This collage was begun last year while in Brooklyn. Maybe it looks like just a jumble of color, bits and pieces. I think it relfects my desire for making connections. I have really been struggling lately with the world I live in. It feels like our culture is comming apart at the seams all around me while every one just goes on with their busy days. As if the Titanic has hit the ice and their are only three people that know what will happen in the next three and a half hours and I am one of those three. I know this may sound wierd but that is what it’s been like in my head lately. I read a book called “The Long Emergency” by Howard Kunstler which has left me walking around bumping into walls. When I feel overwhelmed I can be comorted by making art. I hope the making of art is not escapisim but that it remains to be one of the ways I can come into the presence of God. His lap is the only safe place I know. I remeber reading that Picaso’s secret was that the only time he only found releif from his personal demons was while he was making art.

Rick: Don’t despair! FYI, the beautifully decorated letter you wrote me last fall was recently hand delivered by a friend that came to visit us here in Chile. We are living here for 9 months–more details when I compose a snail mail reply. I wanted you to know it arrived. Saludos y Abrazos, jla
